Our Team
Paul Carmody (Composer, Producer, Engineer and Musician)
Paul started playing music at 3 and has never stopped.
He has an insatiable desire to listen, learn, play and record music...a passion that he feels he was born to explore at every moment.
He studied guitar and piano and was playing live and session at the age of 14.
Discovering Karlheinz Stockhausen and African polyrhythms at College, he took this obsession of diverse music into an music engineering freelance role at major studios in Australia, and playing in music theatre professionally.
He then purchased the worlds first sampler (the Fairlight CMI) and began working with leading artists in producing and composing records that combined tradditional instruments with Samples. A-list artists that were looking to be different began taking notice.
Pioneering the use of samplers brought major and independent Rock, Pop, Hip Hop, RnB acts and produced top 40 tracks.
This journey developed into an intense interest in the heritage and culture of music and a journey to work across the US, UK, Europe, India and Arab regions.
It became an opportunity to collaborate with world class artists and discover more about the origins of genres, combining styles and collaborating.
He gained experience composing, recording, producing in numerous styles, from classical to grunge, and was always on the edge of new music.
He began working with Indian music and learnt how deeply their music meant to them as a society.
Making a number of albums in India, he then brought these learnings to mesh styles across jazz, classical, rock and ambient styles creating fusion and harmony.
Paul returned to create a successful music label with Stuart DeHoedt, developing culturally diverse artists in commercial music and becoming involved in video clips, artist photography (the understanding how light and sound go together).
Invitations to work in music for major events, television and film ensewed as did successful albums, but a yearning to further explore live performance and diverse cultural collaboration is still at the heart of his work.
He believes in developing greatness in artists by allowing them to be themselves, but equally encouraging them to explore their very best to be the artist they wish to be.
Steuart De Hoedt (Composer, Producer, Musician)
Born in Columbo Sri Lanka ,Steuart and his family emigrated to Melbourne Australia due to civil war.
For him, Melbourne lived up to its reputation and commitment to mulicultural life and deep acceptance of cultural diversity, so he thrived within the musical community.
Obsessed with melodies and the way they affect the soul, Steuart has incredible skills in writing melodies that jump out from the pack.
Steuart started as a prodigy drummer in a noted Jazz band at just 14 years of age, and he quickly escalated to a session drummer and live performer working with notible bands of the day.
He became facinated by the growing fusion of electronica (Kraftwork) and its effect on hardcore German music and entrenched himself in a collective of eclectic musicians from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Because he needed to get melodies out of his head and into scores, he took up the keyboard and become both a player and programmer to fulfill his destiny.
From there, he has worked with successful bands and found his talent for composing in demand.
While artist collaboration became his passion, he needed a way to find his own path, which eventually lead to starting his own band, where he found his writing skills put to the test.
The success of his band lead him to performing to large audiences and his incredibly unique writing talent to the attention of Paul Carmody to complete an album. This started a musical bond that would last.
Together they discovered their combined interest and passion for creating music without boundries was intoxicating, so they formed Depac to create a place for their passion.
Some would say his incredibly diverse and ecclectic taste in music (e.g. Mozart, Nine Inch nails, Michael Jackson, McCartney, Duke Ellington) seems unfathomable, but the key is that they are all melody driven at the core - and melody driven music is at his core.
Marcelle (Composer, Producer, Musician)
Marcelle's music and performance career began at a very young age. Her earliest credits were in ballet productions with Australian Ballet, Australian Ballet School, National Theatre and the Victorian Opera Company.
Marcelle's focus turned to singing upon acceptance into Melbourne's Conservatorium of Music, where she studied opera with renowned soprano, Merlyn Quaife. On completion of her Bachelor of Music, she was cast in numerous musicals, one woman shows and tours throughout Australia.
Film and television have also played significant roles in Marcelle's career to date. She has featured in several international television series including 'The Workers' (Southern Cross Austereo), 'WOW' (Shanghai Media Group) and 'Neighbours' (Fremantle Media).
This back-story perhaps brings creative context to Marcelle, the singer/songwriter. Her music has been described as a 'blend of authenticity with jagged theatrics'. She is an artist driven by an innate desire to engage, with an eclectic palate, vast knowledge and appreciation for the power melody's language to convey the human state.
Marcelle brings a tenderness and emotional IQ to her compositional work. She composes with heart and soul from the preformers point of view. She is deeply attracted to the listener experience. He lyrics are a genuine specialty where she mixes depth and complexity with accessiblity and simple.
Daniele Buatti (Composer, Producer, Musician)
Daniele is a Melbourne-based Music Director, Arranger, orchestrator, pianist.
He's highly diverse and extensive skills find him preparing music for corporate events, musical theatre works and commercial productions with Depac.
